Antonio Terrasi

Prof. Antonio Terrasi got his degree in Physics in1986 and the Ph.D in Physics in 1990, both at the University of Catania. He has been visiting scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (U.S.A.) in 1988, 1989 and 1990. He served as Scientific Officer at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (E.P.F.L.) in 1994. After being a researcher at the National Council of Research, he obtained a permanent position at the University of Catania in 1997. Coordinator of the Ph.D. courses in Material Science, since 2010 he is also director of a bi-annual course on “Materials for Renewable Energy and Sustainability” in the framework of the International School of Solid State Physics at the “Ettore Majorana Foundation” in Erice (Italy). Among many research fields, major interests were in x-ray spectroscopy with synchrotron radiation, Si-based semiconductors synthesis (MBE, sputtering), processing (ion implantation, thermal annealing), characterizations (EXAFS, RBS, XPS, XRD, optical, electrical) and devices.

Since about 10 years, his research focuses on advanced materials and nanostructures for innovative photovoltaics (Si and Ge quantum dots, quantum wells, new transparent conductive materials).
