Synthesis and Characterization of Heterocyclic Polyimides as High Performance Materials with Potential Applications in RF MEMS Devices Processing

Abstract.
Three heterocyclic polyimides have been prepared by polycondensation in solution at high temperatures of benzophenontetracarboxylic dianhydride with aromatic diamines containing preformed oxadiazole ring. One of these polymers is soluble in polar aprotic solvents, while the other are only soluble as intermediate polyoxadiazole-amidic acids. The polyimides showed high thermal stability with decomposition temperature being above 450°C and glass transition above 250°C. All polyamidic acids and one polyimide showed remarkable film-forming ability, which makes the present polymers potential candidates for applications as high performance materials.
