Are you interested in bio-based nanomaterials?
Would you like to use biomass in your products or process them further?
Have you developed a technology that is an excellent fit for Bionanopolys?
Would you like to improve your products functionalities
by using bio-nanocomposite materials?

The EU project "Bionanopolys" invites you to attend the Romanian Stakeholders Workshop to present and discuss their various solution approaches.

The replacement of fossil fuels by renewable resources is an essential part of the strategy to fight the climate crisis. A broad portfolio of chemicals and materials can be produced from lignocellulosic biomass using both traditional and state-of-the-art technologies. One focus is on nanomaterials. This is an express challenge to produce new products in comparable quality, quantity and at competitive prices in order to compete as a serious alternative to conventional materials.
The EU project "Bionanopolys" aims to answer this challenge by creating a appropriate settlement through an "Open Innovation Test-Bed" (OITB) to stimulate innovations in the field of bio-based nanomaterials for applications in the textile, packaging, polymer, 3D printing, cosmetics or food industries.
The project comprises 27 entities across Europe (universities, research, industrial, legal, dissemination) that sustains 14 pilot plants grouped in 3 Networks to validate processes that produce nanofibres, crystals, lignin, dispersions or nanocapsules and block copolymers from lignocellulosic raw materials for use in bionanomaterials. The studies from the pilot plants are accompanied by supporting services, such as modelling, safety analyses, technology impact assessments, sustainability checks.

The overall project goal is to facilitate the market penetration of nano-enabled biobased materials with high added-value, through a Single-Entry Point (SEP) by targeting the most demanded applications: packaging, textiles and nonwovens,  cosmetics, medicine, foam, coatings, and cellulose paper.
This event addresses the companies, universities, research centres and other interested groups from Romania and it  aims to present the developments and services to be implemented by the OITB of the BIONANOPOLYS project and to underline the possibilities to test the pilot plants and services offered, with funding from the BIONANOPOLYS project.

Romania plays an important role in the Bionanopolys partner network: providing its computational expertise and tools, National Institute for Research and Development in Microtechnology (IMT Bucharest) contributes to predicting and improving the properties and performances of novel bionanocomposites and materials by mathematical and physical modelling and numerical simulation.
