Dr. Eng. Catalin Parvulescu (catalin.parvulescu@imt.ro) is a 2nd Degree Scientific Researcher at the National Institute for Research and Development in Microtechnologies (IMT Bucharest). He received his PhD title in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications (2015) from the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest.
Dr. Parvulescu has over 17 years of experience in micro- and nanofabrication technologies, with strong expertise in photolithography, nanoimprint lithography, and the processing and characterization of photosensitive thin films. He has contributed to the design and fabrication of advanced micro- and opto-electronic devices, electrochemical devices, microfluidic systems, and functional thin-film architectures, as well as the integration of diffractive optical elements using combined holographic and laser lithography. His expertise also includes the development of scalable processes compatible with industrial transfer.
Dr. Parvulescu served as Responsible Partner in multiple national projects, including initiatives focused on advanced multilayer holographic technologies and secure microstructured materials (2020–2024, https://smartholotemp.optoel.ro/; https://tecomholisig.optoel.ro/), as well as earlier work on metallic holographic microparticles (2018–2020). Across these projects, he oversaw technology development, process optimization, and collaboration between research institutes and industry. Dr. Parvulescu has been actively involved in more than 40 national and international projects, where he has played key roles in technology development, delivering high-quality fabrication solutions. In the last five years, his expertise in fabrication technologies has expanded to include the design and microfabrication of electrochemical sensors on silicon substrates for advanced environmental monitoring applications. He is a key contributor in several national projects on sensor development, including WATERGUARD and PORTABLE-SENS, where he is responsible for the fabrication and integration of electrode platforms for electrochemical sensing systems.
He is co-author of over 60 ISI-indexed publications and several BDI papers and book chapters, and holds multiple patents and patent applications, including “Electrochemical sensor with three integrated electrodes on a solid substrate, featuring nanocrystalline graphite electrodes.”
